Recreation and Culture Summer Support Labourer
(Approx. 18 weeks)
Recreation and culture services are important and essential to a thriving community, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our citizens and recreation and culture facilities, spaces, programs and events are also important drivers of economic activity.
The Recreation and Culture department serves as a facilitator in ensuring the provision of sport, recreation and culture services to the community of Lethbridge through direct and/or indirect delivery with various community partnerships.
The Recreation and Culture Department has a summer casual term opportunity available for a seasonal labourer. Reporting to the Recreation Services Manager and/or the Facility Manager, this role will complete various assigned tasks or projects within Recreation and Culture, provide call-out services to troubleshoot customer challenges within our facilities, assist in the coordination of Canada Day celebrations, and provide other frontline customer service or maintenance roles as required.
The valuable team member will work between 20-40 hours per week, from May 1st through to August 31st.
WAGE: $23.00 per hour (20-40 hours per week, as scheduled)
Key Responsibilities Include: (not limited too)
- Complete various cosmetic maintenance tasks (painting, cleaning, etc.)
- Trouble shoot customer inquiries in various Recreation and Culture facilities
- Assist with the coordination of Canada Day celebration events
- Complete various special projects as assigned
- Other related duties as required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications
- Completion of a high school diploma or GED
- Ability to problem solve through analysis and logical thinking to develop solutions or provide options
- Valid class 5 operator license with no more than 5 demerit points
- Current certification in Defensive Driving and First Aid/CPR (considered an asset)
- Experience in the safe and proficient operation of tools and equipment for the position
- Applicants must be able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public
- Good communication and teamwork skills are necessary to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction
- The physical ability and stamina to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions is critical
Please note, the position consistently works early evenings and weekends.
